Maleta was there when her parents were killed. She watched in terror as her small brother was carted off by the Queen. She survived being tossed to the Wolf and his men while her mother’s blood still covered her. She now acts as Hedda’s Own, Hedda’s Sword. But can she survive the battles to come? Can she survive Cianan?

Cianan dreams of a ghost woman. A woman who means more to him than he realizes. And yet, he knows that he is being drawn to help her. To help her, and to save her, if he can. But in a strange land, with strange gods, can one lone man change what the gods do with their servants?

Maleta is the justice of the land. The last person to hear the pleas and cries of the dead from the bodies of the ones who committed the crimes. But when the opportunity arises will she be able to look beyond the crimes committed against her and her family? Will she be able to survive the days to come? Will she ever be able to let the past go and look to the future?

This is the second book in the Guardians of Light series, and I will say that it- like its predecessor, drew me in from the beginning. I found myself drawn to the plight that Maleta was in. Her past haunting her, and trying to work through it for hopes of a better future. She is what her world has made her, and it was both difficult and a joy to see her struggle through it. Cianan was a different hero from Loren. His gentleness and strength seemed both a blessing and a curse. His patience with Maleta drew my attention and eventually my heartfelt sighs as he tried to help her on her mission. If only the men that Renee Wildes draws with her talent with words could truly come off of the pages! Bravo Ms. Wildes! A definite kudos to you, for this heart achingly felt second addition to the Guardians of Light! I hope to see more of this series, and more of the love that so smoothly flows off of the pages and into the reader’s hearts!
